Guy de Barbot's production is characterized by varied and heteregenous works painted over the years,
and homogeneous series achieved in short spaces of time as of 1973.
His began painting whenever his first diplomatic appointment in Cairo in the early '50s gave him some leisure.
His fist exhibition there, reflected here in the "Egypt" showroom, showed local landscapes but also feminim curves.
Whilst never really portraiting, ladies are present all along his art, as shown in the "Women" showroom.
Many paintings were made for, or after, special events. You will thus find in the "Landscapes" showroom
a fire painted on the French Riviera while on a stay at his in-laws' in the 70s'

,
a souvenir from a trip to Moscow

,
or frescos for thematic parties as Saint Tropez

or Sirens.
His real profession as artist begins in 1973 when he retires and paints his "Flowers" series.
Two exhibitions will expose these paintings in 1976, one in Paris, the other in Grasse.
Next the "Boards" series will follow, quite probably inspired by his daughter Virginie's death in 1979.
An exhibition in Paris in 1989 will end this series, in which some will say he showed all his sensitivity.
Guy de Barbot was also a good huntsman, as his "Birds" series reflects.
His "Couples" will never be exhibited, and almost none of these paintings are signed.
When they are, it is with the pseudonym Tobrab.
Some "miscellaneous" paintings and many sketches were found in his studio by his family after his death.
In the same way, the "Black" series, which reveals his tormented spirit in his last years, were unknown to his family.
